Busignani Named to MaxPreps All-America teams, State Player of the Year

BLOOMFIELD HILLS - While the season is complete, the awards and honors keep rolling in for members of the Marian varsity volleyball team. 

The Mustangs finished the 2023 campaign as Catholic League Bishop Division champions and claimed MHSAA district and regional trophies before falling in the state quarterfinal and finishing 44-8. 

Recently, six members of the team were recognized by the Catholic League Coaches Association. Juniors Maria Odeesh and Izzy Busignani joined senior Dani Mertz on the all-Catholic team. Freshmen Calli LeFevre and Sophia Smith were all-League along with sophomore Allie Davison

The Michigan Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) also honored Busignani, Odeesh, Davison, LeFevre and Smith on the Division 1 all-Region squad. Busignani (1st Team), LeFevre (3rd Team) and Mertz (Honorable Mention) were also singled out by MIVCA as all-State honorees. 

It was Busignani, however, that has been recognized at the national level. While honors are still being released. National prep sports outlet MaxPreps placed the 6-1 outside hitter on both their 60-member all-America squad as a second team selection. Izzy was also named a first team junior all-American by MaxPreps. With 640 season kills, 358 digs and 76 service aces, Busignani was the only player from Michigan that made the lists.

Dec. 6, 2023 UPDATE: Busignani was named the MaxPreps Michigan Player of the Year! Since 2008, MaxPreps has recognized a player of the year in each of the 50 states.
