Marian sends ten swimmers to defend MHSAA title

OAKLAND UNIVERSITY, November 15, 2023 – A year ago, the Marian High School swim & dive team hoisted the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 3 championship trophy at the Holland Aquatic Center.

Marian was in a battle with Holland Christian during the stretch run of last year's meet in the Maroon's home pool. A late surge, led by Swimmer of the Meet Rachel Bello, propelled the Mustangs to the win with 245 points. Holland Christian finished with 230.5 points.

This season, the traditionally small Marian team is even smaller. After graduating nine seniors, the 27-member team has transformed into a 19-member squad under head coach Dave Eichenhorn's leadership.

The small but mighty Mustangs finished 7-3 on the dual meet season, with an early-season win over non-conference rival Birmingham Groves, 97-88. Following a 14^th-place finish at Oakland County Championships, Marian ripped off five dual meet wins in a row before finishing third at Catholic League Championships behind Mercy (Division 2) and Cranbrook (Division 3).

Nine new state finals cuts were achieved at the CHSL Finals. Over the course of the season, several other cuts were obtained. See below for a summary of the athletes and events that will be competing on behalf of Marian this weekend in State Finals.

The preliminary round of the MHSAA Division 3 Championship will be held this Friday, November 17 at Oakland University at Noon. Finals on Saturday will also begin at Noon. Tickets are $11 per day and are available in digital format only through GoFan (gofan.co).
