Bio

Beginning with the 2024 season, Danny Price will succeed Reid Friedrichs who left after two seasons to become the top assistant in the men’s soccer program at Michigan State University this past summer. Under Friedrichs, the Mustangs advanced to the MHSAA Division 2 Final in 2022 and captured a MHSAA District crown in 2023 before falling in penalty kicks to eventual state champion Grosse Pointe North in the regional round.

2023 marked the first year since 2016 that Marian did not appear in the MHSAA Finals. The Mustangs captured four consecutive state championships from 2017 to 2022 (no tournament was held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Overall, Marian was won nine MHSAA titles and four state runner-up appearances.

“We’ve had the great fortune of some of the finest coaches in state history in Barry Brodsky and Reid Friedrichs,” stated Mike Watson, Marian’s director of athletics. “Danny Price is cut from the same cloth. He clearly emerged from a talented pool of candidates in our committee round of interviews and the results he’s had at the youth, club and high school levels set him apart even further as a terrific fit for our culture.”

Currently the Michigan Director of Operations at Liverpool Football Club (FC), Price oversees all sites across the state for the club. Additionally, Danny is Liverpool FC’s Super Y League Director of Coaching and serves as the Pre-Elite Club National League (ECNL) Director for Liverpool FC.

In his role as Super Y League Director, Price led Liverpool FC to national championships in 2015 (U17 boys), 2016 (U12 girls), 2018 (U15 girls), 2019 (U15 girls) and 2021 (U16/17 girls).

In 2019, Price coached the 2006 Liverpool FC Girls Academy to the club’s first Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) State Cup championship.

Prior to joining the Liverpool FC staff, Danny previously coached at TNT Dynamite soccer club as Technical Director for six years from 2005 to 2011. Simultaneously, Price coached the Chicago Fire Juniors in the Super Y League, leading the U14 girls’ team to a national final in 2010.

No stranger to Michigan high school soccer, Price is in the midst of his fifth season as the head soccer coach at Brother Rice High School. In 2019, Price took over the Warriors program following the retirement of Barry Brodsky, also the longtime head coach at Marian.

Three seasons into his tenure at Rice, Danny guided to Warriors to MHSAA District and Regional championships and a state finals appearance. Following that 2021 season, Price was named by his peers as the district and regional coach of the year.

“I left England 21 years ago to fulfill my dreams of coaching after my playing career ended,” Price remarked. “I chose then to leave my family with one thing in mind - to help change children’s lives through the medium of this great sport.”

Price just never though his coaching path would take him to the high school level.

“I’m hooked. In communities like Brother Rice and Marian, you really get to know the kids because you train more frequently,” he said. “It’s so meaningful to develop relationships with high character kids and families. At Marian, championship soccer is just part of the high expectations I hope to support as the head coach.”

Coach Price has directly coached or worked with nearly a dozen current or prospective players.

Originally from Liverpool, England, Price was selected as a youth training player in 1994 with the world-renowned Liverpool Football Club and played under the Liverpool FC Youth Academy. From 1992-1994, Price was extended permission to be a trialist at Manchester United, Manchester City, Bury F.C, Bolton F.C, Oldham F.C, and Blackpool F.C. before an injury limited his playing career.

Price holds an associate degree in criminal justice with a focus in Criminalistics. He also holds an ‘A’ license through the United State Soccer Federation (USSF). Additionally, Price holds a United State Youth Soccer (USYS) national youth coaching license as well as a Football Association (FA) Level 2 Coaching Badge.

Price resides in Commerce Township and can be contacted at priced@marian-hs.com. The Marian soccer season opens on March 11, 2024.
