Marian hosts, finishes 8th at MHSAA ski finals

BOYNE FALLS, Mich. – The high school ski season concluded on Monday at the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 2 Ski Finals.

This year the D2 finals were held at Boyne Mountain and Marian High School was fortunate enough to be selected as the school host. In fact, the Marian coaches and families received rave reviews from the ski community for their organization and effectiveness in managing the over 80 volunteers and nearly 160 competing student-athletes.

The boys began the day on the giant slalom (GS) course with the girls beginning on slalom (SL).

Petoskey dominated both events, earning 63 points, outpacing Notre Dame Prep (83) who was the boys runner-up. Wyatt Mattson of Petoskey was the GS champion and teammate Nolan Walkerdine was the SL winner.

On the girl's side of the championship, Petoskey finished in second place with a total score of 87. Notre Dame Prep was the girls champion (61). Marley Spence of Petoskey captured championships in both events.

Marian finished eighth in the nine-team field with a team score of 244. 

Marian's top performer was Emma Borgula, who finished 19th in GS with a two-run total time of 80.57. Borgula also finished 20th in the slalom (79.61).

Susie Klein finished 24th overall in slalom (80.30) and captured 37th overall in GS (85.21).

Paige Rawlins has a terrific day on the GS course, finishing 33rd overall with a two-run total time of 84.15. Rawlins also scored points for Marian in the slalom, finishing 34th (84.94).

With a two-run slalom time of 84.71, Stella Lowman finished in 33rd position, scoring points for Marian. Lowman finished 44th in GS (88.85), scoring as Marian's fourth finisher.
