Borgula headlines CHSL Honor team as Marian lands five selections

February 17, 2023

DETROIT, Mich. – The Detroit Catholic High School League Ski Championship was held February 6 at Alpine Valley and all-four of Marian High School's scoring racers earned all-Catholic honors in both the slalom and giant slalom events.

The CHSL Coaches Association regulations dictate that skiers finishing in the top-10 of either discipline shall be named to the all-Catholic selection team.

For the second-straight year, Marian captured the CHSL championship and leading the way was sophomore sensation Emma Borgula. A year ago, Borgula was CHSL champ in the giant slalom. This season, she narrowly finished in second place in the GS event. However, Borgula earned a slalom championship with a two-run time of 43.05.

Another sophomore, Susie Klein also earned all-Catholic honors in both slalom and GS. Klein finished sixth (41.28) in GS and fourth (45.83) in slalom.

Stella Lowman, a junior and three-year varsity veteran finished eighth (42.66) in the GS event and fifth (46.91) in slalom, good enough for yet another double all-Catholic designation.

Senior veteran Joelle Osmond earned a position on the CHSL Coaches Association all-Academic squad. One of the Mustangs' most accomplished students, Osmond holds a 3.9 cumulative GPA.

The final Marian all-Catholic performer is junior Paige Rawlins. Paige was top-four in GS (40.93) and with a two-run time of 48.03, finished eighth in slalom.

The CHSL and Southeastern Michigan Ski League (SEMSL) Alpine Division champions will try for an overall SEMSL title on Tuesday (Feb. 21) before hosting the MHSAA Division 2 championship at Boyne Mountain in Harbor Springs on February 27.
