Golf Finishes 9th in Loaded MHSAA Field

ALLENDALE – The eighth-ranked Marian golf team put their skills to the test in the 2023 Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 3 Golf Championships, held at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale on October 20 and 21. The event featured fierce competition from across the state, and Marian's young golfers faced the challenge with determination and commitment.
The tournament showcased the prowess of Marian High School's golfers, who displayed their resilience and tenacity throughout tough weather conditions. With The Meadows Golf Course's undulating greens and challenging hazards, the stage was set for challenging scoring opportunities.
The standout performances came from Marian's top golfers, who demonstrated their dedication to the sport. Junior Campbell Whitty showed consistency with rounds of 96 and 91, securing a total score of 187. Senior Stella Lowman followed closely with rounds of 103 and 101, totaling 204. Sophomore Pippa Dawson displayed her skill with rounds of 94 and 90, finishing with a score of 184. Senior Lauren Kopera maintained her steady play with rounds of 97 and 99 for a total of 196.
The team's efforts were further bolstered by the contributions of freshman Gabby Wenzel, who shot a 99 on the first day, and sophomore Emerson Turkot, who carded a 110 on the second day, culminating in a combined score of 209.
While Grand Rapids Catholic Central recorded a team score of 673, winning by 12 strokes, Marian tallied a cumulative score of 767, securing a commendable 9th place finish out of 18 teams in the Championships. Their collective performance at the tournament and throughout the season highlighted the hours of practice and dedication poured into their sport.
A mainstay at MHSAA Finals, Marian's golfers have undoubtedly made their school and community proud with their admirable performance at this prestigious event. Their commitment to the sport promises a bright future for the young team, and their resilience on the course serves as a testament to their dedication.
