BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – On the eve of winter break, Marian High School defeated Royal Oak Shrine Catholic, 40-23 in a Detroit Catholic League cross-divisional clash Friday night.

With the win, Marian has captured their last three contests after dropping the previous eight. The Mustangs improve their record to 7-13 while Shrine falls to 6-15 overall.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 11-4 advantage after the first quarter behind Molly McLeod's five points and four from Mckenzie Swanson, off the bench.

In the second quarter, Marian's defensive pressure confused Shrine and held them scoreless. McLeod added six more points in addition to a bucket from Charlie Bingham and the Mustangs led 19-4 at the intermission.

The Knights came out strong in the third quarter as Marian continued their trend of early sluggish second half play.

McLeod added seven fourth quarter points, Bingham chipped in with five and M. Swanson continued to capitalize on her size advantage in the post, scoring five in the final stanza. Shrine was outscored 17-9 as Marian pulled away.

Tess Tillman led Shrine with seven points and Leah Groth added five, but it wasn't enough for the Knights.

Bingham totaled seven points on 3-of-5 shooting. M. Swanson was 6-of-11 from the field for 13 points and grabbed seven boards.

McLeod struggled from three-point range (2-of-14), but was strong in transition with five points off Knights' turnovers. Molly tallied 18 points to lead all scorers and pulled down three rebounds.

Abby Landa six points and claimed 3 of the team's four assists.

Next Tuesday (Feb. 21), Marian will travel to Orchard Lake St. Mary's in the first-ever game between the two schools. The JV games is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. while the varsity game will tip at approximately 7 p.m. at Dombrowski Fieldhouse.
