Mustangs win seeding-battle game vs. Black Hawks

BLOOMFIELD HILLS – Marian secured a 15-point victory on the road at Bloomfield Hills High School, winning 50-35 over the host Black Hawks.

In a crucial game down the stretch to determine MPR seeding for the MHSAA district 27 tournament in which both teams will compete in, Marian (6-13) utilized balanced scoring gain an upper hand over the 14-3 Bloomfield Hills team of the Oakland Activities Association's Blue Division.

In fact, if the tournament started today, Marian would secure the #1-seed and host the district tournament that also includes Troy, Groves and Seaholm beginning February 27.

Molly McLeod led the attack, scoring 14 points off 6-of-13 shooting, hitting two crucial 3-point makes down the stretch.

Still hobbled by injury, Mckenzie Swanson once again came off the bench, but played major minutes, leading all scorers with 17 points. Swanson also pulled in nine rebounds in the winning effort.

While Bloomfield Hills' bigs Ruby Smith and Brianna Young were formidable in the post, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively and picking up a combined 16 points in the paint, the story of the night was Marian junior Abby Landa.

Landa had the hot shooting hand, going five-of-six from three-point range, scoring 15 on the night. Landa also pulled down nine rebounds to tie her with M. Swanson for team-high.

Marian will return to action on February 17 when they will host Shrine Catholic in a non-conference matchup. Game time is 6:00 p.m. on Cicerone Court.
