Maresh selected to lead Softball Program
Bloomfield Hills, MI (November 7,2023) – Marian High School today announced the addition of Abigail "Abbey" Maresh to the position of head coach for the softball program. Maresh takes over a Mustangs program that finished 6-25 during the 2023 season and 10-15 following the 2022 campaign.
"As a player, Abbey competed at a high level," Mike Watson, Marian Athletic Director said. "As a young coach, she has shown outstanding potential at the travel levels and also in middle school and high school levels. We're going to lean on her experience and relatability to build our program"
A 2019 graduate of Lake Orion High School, Maresh was a standout in basketball and softball for the Dragons before matriculating to Northwood (MI) University where she was a member of the Timberwolves softball program.
Although limited in action for Northwood, the lefty outfielder made a difference on the base paths and as a scrappy pinch hitter. Academically, Maresh was honored as part of the 2020 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball All-Academic Excellence Team.
Maresh is expected to graduate from Northwood with a bachelor of business administration degree in 2024. She is currently completing coursework in Management Information Systems and will hold a minor in Cybersecurity Management & Accounting.
An entrepreneur at heart, Maresh is co-owner of Bees and Bear, a business that designs, markets and sells quilted bags, blankets and gifts.
Passionate about coaching and leading young women, Maresh has already made an impact early in her coaching career. She served as an assistant head coach with the Oxford Wildcats 14u travel team under former Saginaw Valley State University Head Coach Everett Roper. Additionally, Abbey serves as head eighth grade coach for the Waldon Middle School girls basketball team and is currently the freshman girls basketball head coach and varsity assistant at Lake Orion High School.
"There's a ton of potential at Marian High School," Maresh stated. "Academically, there are high expectations here and there's no reason those expectations can't transcend to the softball diamond. I believe we can build a competitive program here."
Marian competes in the Catholic High School League (CHSL) AA Division with Bishop Foley, Fr. Gabriel Richard, Lumen Christi, Our Lady of the Lakes, St. Catherine, St. Ursula, Central Catholic and University Liggett. The Mustangs return ten letter winners from last season.
The softball season begins March 11, 2024.
