Hornick awarded MIAAA Scholarship

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI (February 21, 2024) – Marian senior Lauren Hornick has been awarded the 2024 Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA) scholarship for Region 13.

The MIAAA is the professional organization of high school and middle school athletic directors across the state of Michigan. Each year the MIAAA, through a representative committee, selects 13 winners from each of the organization's regions.

Applicants must be seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, or ranked in the top 25% of their graduating class. In addition, all applicants must have at least an ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1100 (math & reading). Applicants must have also competed in at least two sports for at least two seasons in each. Finally, applicants must complete a data form, a comprehensive essay and receive at least one letter of support from a school staff member.

Region 13 includes the Catholic High School League and many other private and parochial schools from across Southeast Michigan. Of the hundreds of applications received, Lauren was identified by the committee as the winner for Region 13 and will receive $1000 toward college expenses next fall.

Hornick has been a leader in field hockey and competes in both the track & field and soccer programs each spring.

As a three-year varsity field hockey captain, Lauren has earned CHSL All-Catholic and All-League honors as well as All-State Academic status. She was selected to take part in the Michigan High School Field Hockey Coaches Association (MHSFHCA) Senior All-Star game.

In addition to being a varsity letter winner in soccer, Hornick has also earned All-Catholic, All-Region and All-State Academic honors in track & field.

Armed with an amazing 4.29 GPA, Hornick is also president of the Marian National Honor Society chapter and class coordinator for the International Samaritan 5K run/walk and Project Care among many other activities. Lauren has also served on missions to Honduras and Guatemala through the International Samaritan organization.

Lauren's essay focused on conquering her personal challenges, especially through the COVID-19 pandemic. She is Marian's first winner of the MIAAA Scholarship in the 12-year history of the award.

In addition to Hornick's selection, three other Mustangs advanced to the finalist stage including Avery Schneider, Molly O'Brien and Charlotte Quaine. Each of the Marian applicants proved to be outstanding applicants for the selection committee.
