Mike Stacey selected to lead Marian Athletic Performance Program

Bloomfield Hills, MI (August 7, 2023) – Marian High School today announced the addition of Michael Stacey, II to the position of head performance coach. Stacey will be charged with overseeing the Marian Athletic Performance Program (MAPP). In its infancy, the MAPP program will be comprised of three components – strength & conditioning, mental skills training, and nutrition education for Marian student-athletes.

"Mike is an outstanding fit for our program," stated Marian Athletic Director, Mike Watson. "Not only does he possess the highest possible certification in strength and conditioning, but also has a decade of experience training athletes for peak mental performance. Most importantly, he is a patient instructor with experience in the Catholic high school setting."

Most recently, Stacey was employed at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview as the Pioneers' first-ever strength & conditioning coach. He also worked as a counseling assistant at the school. There, he created an online resources platform for athletes, coaches and local professionals that housed individualized workouts, exercise demos, and other resources while leading the overall athletic performance program.

The Plymouth native also served as assistant athletic director for athletic performance at De La Salle Collegiate High School. While at De La Salle, Stacey designed and implemented a multifaceted program for 550 athletes across 13 sports.

Outside of the school setting, Stacey also has experience working with the Brazil National Ice Hockey team as a strength & conditioning and goalie coach, now consulting as a goalie coach for the Brazillian Women's National Ice Hockey Team. Prior to that, Mike also served as sports psychology coach for the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League for four seasons.

Mike began his career in athletic performance at BARWIS, where he worked with school-aged to professional athletes under the direction of former University of Michigan football strength & conditioning director, Mike Barwis.

Owner of Mike Stacey Mental Skills (MS2), Mike has successfully worked with elite and professional athletes in individual and group settings for nearly a decade.

In addition to his role in the athletic program, Mike will also work at Marian as a counseling assistant. He received a bachelor of arts in Psychology (Emphasis in Behavioral Neuroscience) from Purdue University in 2011 and also earned a master of science degree in Kinesiology (Emphasis in Sports Psychology) from Texas Christian University in 2013. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NCSA).

"I'm excited to join the team at Marian," Stacey remarked. "I look forward to working with the young women to help them foster a healthy, lifelong relationship with exercise. I'm optimistic about what we can team up to accomplish."

Stacey and his wife Jenny reside in Warren.
