Bio

On July 1, 2023 Heather Greig Sofran '96 succeeded Sr. Lenore Pochelski, IHM as the first laywoman and alumna to lead Marian High School in its 64-year hostory.

Mrs. Sofran joins Marian at a significant time in the school’s governance as it transitions from religious to lay leadership and from a Head of School model to a President-Principal model.  As president, Mrs. Sofran oversees all business aspects of the institution, including visioning, oversight of the new five-year Strategic Plan, admission, finance, fundraising, human resources, and marketing.  With Mrs. Sofran filling the new role of president, Marian also announced Mrs. Stacey Cushman, the current Academic Dean, as the school's principal.  Mrs. Cushman, a 15-year Marian veteran in education and administration at Marian with several academic certifications, continues to provide the institutional foundation and the day-to-day affairs of the school that will help make this a seamless transition.  Under Mrs. Sofran 's leadership, the Marian community can be assured of continued and future success.

Mrs. Sofran is committed to service within the Catholic community as an alumna, administrator, educator, and parent. A proud member of Marian’s Class of 1996, her understanding of upholding Marian’s mission is paramount.  While a student at Marian, she earned academic and athletic honors that would lead to a full athletic scholarship to play volleyball at Bowling Green State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in science.  She continued her post-graduate studies at Marygrove College earning her Master in the Art of Teaching with a Summa Cum Laude distinction.  This is Mrs. Sofran’s second homecoming at Marian, after returning to her alma mater as an assistant volleyball coach from 2010-2014.

Most recently, Mrs. Sofran has been the Assistant Principal at St. Regis Catholic School, one of the largest Archdiocesan schools in Metro Detroit. In that role, she managed the day-to-day operations, providing visionary leadership in areas that include building management, marketing, and communications. She has served on the school’s Advancement Committee to raise funds for capital modernization projects and new programs to support student success.  She added the role of Athletic Director in 2021, where she managed the parish’s 29 Catholic Youth Organization sports teams.
