Mary Cicerone is quite simply the most successful female basketball coach in Michigan history.

Over her 39-year career, Mary Cicerone led the Mustangs to 19 Central Division Titles, 20 Catholic League Titles, 12 MHSAA Final Fours, a state runner-up finish in 1997 and six state championships which is tied for second most in Michigan history.

Cicerone’s 707 victories places her third among all girls basketball coaches and fifth among all boys or girls basketball coaches. To put this in perspective, MHSAA schools to this point are allowed a maximum of 20 regular season games. Cicerone’s teams averaged 18 wins per year under her leadership.

However, Cicerone’s greatest victory may have been as an educator at Marian, touching the lives of the over 1,000 students who had Cic as a teacher.
