Bio

Jennifer Shasky will forever be known as one of Marian's finest student-athletes and the first of several nationally-recognized basketball players in school history.

As a senior, Shasky led the Mustangs to the school's first-ever MHSAA Championship in any sport. Grand Valley State University served host to the 1988 MHSAA Class A Finals where Marian raced out to a 19-point first-half lead and defeated Flint Powers Catholic, 71-49. Shasky was unstoppable, going 12-16 from the field and scoring 30 points in the final.

In fact, outstanding performances in the state semifinal (a 60-50 win over Detroit Murray-Wright) and the championship helped earn the 5'9" senior the coveted Miss Basketball Award for 1988.  The award is given annually to the state's top senior basketball player, sponsored by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM). Additionally, Shasky also earned the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year Award.

Shasky's 20.9 points per game average helped her earn a scholarship to George Washington University following graduation in 1989.

At GW, Shasky lettered four years (1990-93) and finished her career as the university's all-time leading scorer. Although her scoring totals have since been eclipsed, she was a pioneer in the sport, scoring 1,643 point, including nearly 200 three-point makes in her career. While averaging 14 points per game, Shasky helped lead the Colonials to a four year record of 82-39 and the first two NCAA tournament appearances in school history. In 1992, Shasky earned MVP honors in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament.

A true student-athlete, Shasky was not only a two-time All-America (1991, 92), but she was also a Rhodes Scholar finalist and a GTE-CoSIDA All-America second team selection in 1993.  Shasky graduated from GW summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in international affairs  in 1993, also earning Phi Beta Kappa Society membership.

Following graduation, Shasky won three postgraduate scholarships and later earned a law degree from the University of Arizona.

In 1999, George Washington University inducted Shasky to their athletic hall of fame. In 2013, Shasky was honored as an inaugural member of the Atlantic 10 Conference's "Women's Basketball Legends."

Shasky was employed by the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division. She was a prosecutor in the U.S. attorney office for the Eastern District of Virginia for 15 years focusing on transnational criminal organizations before entering the private sector.
