Bill Thompson endures as one of the most important members of the local and state swimming communities.

Thompson has built the Marian Swim & Dive program into one of the state’s most competitive. Often competing in higher than required classifications, Thompson’s teams have surpassed expectations as a result of his renown attention to detail in technical instruction.

In fact, each and every current swimming individual event school record at Marian has been earned under Thompson’s leadership, including four current Catholic League records prior to his retirement following the 2021 season.

The Mustangs were state runners-up four times and captured MHSAA Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2014 under Bill’s tutelage.

Thompson has coached dozens of league champions, state champions and all-Americans, but it is his relationships with the athletes that stands out the most.
